Shocking Research Reveals the Riskiest Month for Dog Theft in the UK
Growling Tums, a UK dog food brand, has released an in-depth analysis of search trends over the last five years, revealing that April (yep this month!) is the worst month for dog thefts in the UK with a 300% jump in searches over the previous month. The study emphasises the importance of increased awareness and caution among pet owners during this peak period. And while I don’t want to panic any of my members or followers, this is something people mention during our members Q&A and coffee mornings so I think it is worth me sharing information like this when I get sent it!
The study by Growling Tums examined online search trends related to dog thefts, revealing a substantial spike in searches during April. The data implies that factors such as warmer weather, extended daylight hours, and more outdoor activities contribute to the increased risk of dog thefts during this time. Obviously this is something we have to be so careful of when running classes in public places and why I always say to people NEVER, EVER leave your dog unattended.
Our local area of Nantwich sadly has had more than its fair share of bad press about things like this. The case of Denzel and Welly who were taken from outside of M&S Nantwich in March 2021 is something I think everyone remembers all to sadly.
Growling Tums is urging pet owners to remain vigilant and take extra precautions to protect their cherished companions.
Recommended measures include using secure collars and leashes, microchipping pets (which they should be owing to legal requirements!) supervising dogs closely when outdoors, and caution with sharing details on social media platforms.
